North Johnston’s Nathan Woodard was 4 for 4 with a double and a grand slam in the second inning Thursday to lead the Wilson Post 13 junior American Legion baseball team to a 9-3 victory over Bear Grass on the campus of Beddingfield High.
Post 13, in winning its fourth straight game, improved to 6-2 overall and 4-2 in Area I conference play.
Beddingfield’s Austin Slate, who doubled and scored on three occasions, went 2 for 4 and drove in a pair of runs. Slate was also the winning pitcher, working five innings and allowing six hits. He struck out four and walked four, yielding a pair of earned runs.
Ty Narron entered in the sixth and recorded the final six outs for Post 13.
Purveyors of 10 hits, Wilson picked up a 2-for-3 showing from Justin Holland, who also scored three times.
Tyler Godwin of Beddingfield was 1 for 3 with an RBI double.
Wilson will visit Bertie Stem HS on Friday to face the Windsor Post 37 Rebels at 7 p.m.
