Police are investigating a break-in that occurred while a woman was sleeping in her Kenan Street home.

On Tuesday, officers were dispatched to the 1100 block of Kenan Street regarding a burglary in process at 1:40 a.m., according to Sgt. Steve Stroud. When officers arrived, they spoke to a 46-year-old woman who said that a man entered her home and a physical altercation took place between her and the intruder, police said. The suspect ran from the home, according to Stroud.

The woman also told police her purse was stolen during the incident.

Police describe the suspect as a young black man with a thin build and short hair who was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, jean jacket, a ski mask and gloves.

Police ask anyone with information regarding this case to call the Wilson Police Department at 252-399-2323 or Crime Stoppers at 252-243-2255.
