Police say a thief allegedly fired gunshots at a Wilson man while stealing his utility trailer and lawnmower.

Police responded to the 1800 block of Freeman Street about a larceny in progress shortly after 3 a.m. Sunday. When officers arrived, they spoke to 36-year-old Manaces Flores Romero, who said someone stole his 16-foot black utility trailer that had a red Toro zero-turn mower loaded onto it.

At 11 a.m. the same day, Romero called police back to his home. He told officers he had failed to report that one of the thieves shot at him during the larceny, striking his home. Officers found shell casings and damage to the home, according to Sgt. Steve Stroud.

Stroud said there isn’t any suspect information at this time, but police describe the suspect vehicle used to steal the property as white Chevrolet Tahoe.

Police ask anyone with information regarding this case to call the Wilson Police Department at 252-399-2323 or Crime Stoppers at 252-243-2255.
