Authorities are investigating bomb threats made against Wilson businesses.

On Monday, the Wilson County Sheriff’s Office notified the Wilson Police Department of a bomb threat against two businesses in the city, said Wilson police Sgt. Steve Stroud. Officers spoke to a resident who said he received a text message about a bomb being placed at Strategic Materials and Smithfield Foods, both of which are located on Wilco Boulevard, officials said.

“Responding officers searched the businesses and no bomb was located,” Stroud said.

On Aug. 30, an employee at Carrons Funeral Home also received a text message stating that a bomb was placed inside Carrons on Tarboro Street and Strategic Materials, Stroud said. Both businesses were checked and no bomb was found.

Stroud said police are working to determine whether the cases are connected.

Police ask anyone with information to call the Wilson Police Department at 252-399-2323 or Crime Stoppers at 252-243-2255.
