The Wilson Police Department is investigating the death of a Barton College student found in a dormitory Friday.

Officers were dispatched to Barton College’s Wenger Hall at 4:30 p.m. Friday to check on a person’s welfare, according to a news release from Wilson police spokesman Sgt. Steve Stroud.

Police found an 18-year-old man who was unresponsive, Stroud said. Medics pronounced the student dead at the scene.

A preliminary investigation showed no suspicious causes of death, the release states.

Police on Saturday identified the student as 18-year-old Joshua L. Folston of Asheville.

Wilson police are calling the case “a death investigation only at this time.”

“Due to the circumstances of the case, an autopsy has been requested to determine the exact cause of death,” a Saturday news release states.

Police ask anyone with information to call the Wilson Police Department at 252-399-2323 or Crime Stoppers at 252-243-2255.

Barton College has not yet commented on the incident.
