Police are investigating an armed robbery that occurred at Family Dollar on Thursday.

Officials responded to a 7:04 p.m. call to the Family Dollar at 4800 Ward Blvd. Employees told police that a masked man entered the store armed with a gun and demanded money, according to Sgt. Steve Stroud.

While the robbery was in progress, a customer attacked the robber with an object from the business, Stroud said. The robber assaulted the customer and fled the store with an undisclosed amount of money, officials said. No one was injured as a result of the incident.

Police describe the perpetrator as a black man who is 5 feet, 6 six inches tall and was wearing black pants, a black jacket with a purple undershirt, one purple shoe, a skull mask and white gloves.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Wilson Police Department at 252-399-2323 or Crime Stoppers at 252-243-2255.
