A Wilson man faces charges after police say he attacked another man and stole his wallet.

On June 14, officers were dispatched to the 300 block of Pender Street in regards to a disturbance. When police arrived, they found 36-year-old Charles E. Barnes suffering from multiple injuries, according to Sgt. Steve Stroud.

Barnes told police that he was assaulted by several men he knew, according to Stroud. During the beating, one of the attackers went into Barnes' pockets and stole his wallet, police said. Barnes was taken to Wilson Medical Center for treatment.

Police said a cement block was found to have been used in the assault.

On Tuesday, police arrested 35-year-old Avery L. Cummings in connection to the incident. Cummings is charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon.

He was given a $25,000 secured bond.
