HOLLY SPRINGS — Nick Podkul of the Morehead City Marlins hit a two-run home run in the first inning, and the pitching of the East All-Stars made it stand up Monday night as the East claimed a 2-1 win over the West in the 2017 Coastal Plain League All-Star Game from Ting Field, home of the Holly Springs Salamanders.

The East carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning before the West halved the margin on Matthew Beaird’s RBI single.

Zach Michalski, the winner of the CPL’s Home Run Derby, was 2 for 2 with a pair of doubles for the West.

Shane Shepard of North Carolina State was the sole All-Star representative for the Wilson Tobs, who return to CPL play Wednesday against the Salamanders in Fleming Stadium.
