Sept. 22, 1930 — June 20, 2017 Joyce B. Sutton passed away Tuesday, June 20, 2017 in Winston-Salem. She was 86 years old. Born Sept. 22, 1930 in Wilson, she was the daughter of the late David Alton Boyette and Leona B. Boyette. Joyce was a graduate of the Womens College of Greensboro. She had a love for math and the sciences and taught school in Forsyth and Guilford counties. After more than 35 years of service in the North Carolina public school system, she retired from Page High School in Greensboro in 1986. Joyce had a big heart and was endeared by many. She enjoyed gardening, surf-fishing and summers at the beach. She was a longtime member of Tabernacle Baptist Church in Wilson and loved the Lord. She is survived by sisters Faye B. McKeel (Luther) of Greensboro and June B. Pridgen of Wilson; two nephews, Michael of Wilson and Steve (Pam) of Lawrenceville, Georgia; two nieces, Sandi of Wilson and Debbie of Greensboro; three great-nephews, Trey of Lawrenceville, Georgia, Justin of Wilson and Quinlan of Greensboro; and five great-nieces, Amanda of Lawrenceville, Georgia, Kaitlyn of Wilson, Raven and Shayla of Greensboro and Alyson of Angier. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Helen B. Boyette of Wilson, and niece, Cheri M. Palmer of Angier. A private graveside service will be held for members of the family at the Maplewood Cemetery in Wilson. THE WILSON TIMES publishes brief death notices at no charge.
