KENLY — A late goal by visiting South Johnston was the only one of the match and handed the North Johnston varsity boys soccer team a 1-0 loss, ending the 2-A Eastern Plains Conference Panthers’ modest two-game winning streak Wednesday.
Junior goalkeeper Jonie Moreno made nine saves for North Johnston, which dropped to 4-7-1.
“We had several good scoring chances but didn’t put the ball in the back of the net,” Panthers head coach Jody Edwards said. “I was proud of our team for playing hard throughout the game and displaying great sportsmanship, which I hope is a trademark of our team.”
The 3-A Greater Neuse River Conference Trojans departed 5-2.
North Johnston will host Clayton, also from the Greater Neuse, on Monday.
