Wilson has another great restaurant. It’s New South BBQ, which recently opened on Wooten Boulevard. I read about this new restaurant in The Wilson Times a little while ago and thought I would give it a chance. Well, I am so glad I did! Brisket!

It’s hard to find really great brisket anywhere in this area. I finally found it. The New South owner knows how to smoke the meat just right so that it is amazingly delicious with a distinct smoke line giving testimony to the hours in the smoker. The brisket is fork-tender and almost falls apart in your mouth. There is just enough fat to make the meat juicy. When I add a little of the homemade sauce, I can hardly make myself eat slower. Many times I have tried brisket in other cities that is dry or tough. Not so with New South BBQ.

I have had the brisket twice simply because it is so delectable and it’s so difficult to find. I took some to my sons in Raleigh last week and they couldn’t believe how delicious this food is. I am planning to order some to take to a family reunion next month. I am sure all the other meat offerings are just as wonderful. There are many choices of side dishes. I had the baked beans. Wow! The slaw is very tasty and complements the smoky taste of the meat.

There are two things I look for in a good restaurant; friendly, courteous service and consistently good food. These ingredients are found at New South BBQ and have made me a regular customer. The folks behind the counter are helpful and friendly. The owner spent a good amount of time talking to me about the restaurant and also helping me decide how to transport brisket to my upcoming reunion.

It appears to me that the restaurant is staffed mostly by family. I appreciate the family dynamic that is expressed in New South BBQ. The family members work hard and seem to have great respect for the father, who owns the restaurant.

I love supporting family-run businesses, especially those who know how to prepare food that is uncommonly delicious. I also like supporting folks who make me feel like a special customer. Do yourself a favor and order some brisket from New South BBQ.
