New health clinic planned for Hunt High

The third Wilson Area Student Health clinic will be located at Hunt High School.

The Wilson County Board of Education approved the location of the clinic Monday night. The Healthcare Foundation of Wilson is supporting the new clinic with a grant.

Wilson County Schools Superintendent Lane Mills said the clinic will be located inside the school in a classroom-size space amid other classrooms. It will include examination rooms, offices, restrooms, a laboratory and a registration office.

Renovations to prepare for the clinic will cost $105,000, which includes $10,500 for plumbing; $11,500 for electrical; $22,000 for flooring; $41,000 for walls, doors and windows; and $20,000 for ventilation duct work.


• The board approved a 2019-20 contract for Wilson County Schools’ annual financial audit by Anderson Smith and Wike PLLC. The services will not exceed $37,500 for the audit and $6,500 for the writing of the financial statements.

• Board members tabled the selection of the architect to renovate the running track and bleachers at Beddingfield and Hunt high schools and the roof replacement at Hearne Elementary School until a March 9 work session to hear presentations by the firms being considered for the work.

•The board also tabled the sale of a broadcast trailer that had been used for presentation of board meetings and other school functions, pending legal guidance.

• Fifteen polices were approved on second readings. The policies included extracurricular activities and student organizations; translating and interpreting for students and parents; student sex offenders, registered sex offenders; goals of the purchasing function; organization of the purchasing function; purchasing requirements for equipment, materials and supplies; job descriptions; compliance with State Board of Education employment policies; leave; payroll deductions; resignation; non-career status teachers: non-renewal; use of selection of architects, engineers, surveyors and construction managers at risk; and bidding for construction work.
