Have you ever been some place and your soul is completely content?

For me, that place has always been Charlotte. The sights, the sounds, the food and the people have always made me feel right at home in the Queen City.

Last weekend, for the first time in two years, I was able to go to the place that my soul calls home.

In my column last week, I mentioned a few places that I needed to visit while I was there and I was able to stop by each place on my list.

In addition to completing my list, I also went out in Uptown. It has been a long time since I have been out with a bunch of girls and gone dancing, but Saturday night I was able to do just that.

I started out my night at a restaurant in the South End neighborhood and then ventured next door where a Red Hot Chili Peppers cover band was playing. After a few songs, we made our way to Center City to an arcade bar that used to be one of my favorite dance clubs. While we were there I got an extra surprise, when I ran into a friend from East Carolina University who I haven’t seen in more than a year.

My friends and I were enjoying the music at the arcade bar a lot, but there wasn’t a dance floor, so we decided to change venues again. When we entered the dance club, you could feel the humidity in the air from everyone dancing and sweating.

Once I made it back to my friend’s house, I realized that I couldn’t stop smiling. It has been more than three years since I went out dancing with girlfriends and honestly I had forgotten that I enjoyed doing it.

Sometimes between the work, the long-term boyfriend, the bills and all of my other responsibilities, I forget that I am still in my 20s. I am hyper aware of the fact that I have more in common with my grandmother than I do with my peers, but I hope that in the future I am able to remember that I am still 25 years old and tap into my fun side. I know I am already missing Charlotte and the friends I have there, so I may need to plan another weekend trip.
