The North Carolina High School Athletic Association announced Thursday that it was taking the unusual step of moving its 1-3 and 3-A outdoor track and field championships to Sunday.
The dual championship meet was originally scheduled for Friday at Irwin Belk Track on the campus on North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro but the forecast for rain that day caused the schedule change.
The NCHSAA will hold the 2-A and 4-A championships on Saturday, starting at 10 a.m.
“It is always difficult to decide to postpone or delay a state championship event. However, with inclement weather in the forecast for much of the day on Friday, it became apparent that this decision is in the best interest of the 1A and 3A student-athletes who have worked so hard to reach this year’s state championship meet,” said NCHSAA Commissioner Que Tucker.
The NCHSAA said there will be a Fellowship of Christian Athletes devotion offered at 10 a.m., prior to the 11 a.m. starting time for the meet.
