KENLY — A man accused of robbing a Nash County bank was captured following a Friday afternoon police chase.

Sheriff’s deputies say 36-year-old Michael Scott King is suspected in a Friday robbery at Southern Bank, 8315 Red Oak Road in the Battleboro community north of Rocky Mount.

The Nash County Sheriff’s Office alerted area law enforcement agencies after the robbery and provided a description of the suspect and his vehicle. Kenly police spotted the car, a Nissan Altima, and initiated a pursuit when the driver failed to stop, according to Nash County Chief Deputy Brandon Medina.

Police deployed stop sticks to disable King’s car and took him into custody without incident.

Deputies say a man walked into the Southern Bank branch and handed a teller a note demanding money. King was identified as the suspect in the theft and may face additional charges.

“Deputies are currently following up on leads at this time,” Medina said in a news release. “The suspect is believed to match the description and vehicle used in another incident in Rocky Mount.”

Nash County deputies drove to Kenly to interview King and continue their investigation of the robbery. King had not been jailed or issued a bond as of Friday afternoon.
