An 80-year-old Wilson County man reported missing on Thursday was found roughly 90 miles away in Gates County.

Deland “Dee” Eric Ferrell was located Thursday afternoon and was expected to be released shortly after an evaluation at a Gatesville hospital, according to Wanda Samuel, Wilson County Sheriff’s Office chief of staff.

State officials issued a Silver Alert for Ferrell on Thursday morning. He had last been seen on Little Rock Church Road near Lucama and the advisory stated he has a 2011 Toyota Highlander SUV.

Silver Alerts are issued for people of any age who are believed to be suffering from dementia or another cognitive impairment and are considered missing and endangered, according to the N.C. Center for Missing Persons.

Rural Gates County is located in the northeastern corner of North Carolina near the Virginia state line.
