The Blue Rocks improved to 17-12 and maintained a two-game league in the Carolina League's Northern Division. Carolina fell to 17-12, but trail the surging Down East Wood Ducks by four games in the Southern Division ranks.

The double by Melendez, part of a four-run inning, tied the game 2-2 before Melendez and Ricky Aracena scored on an error later in the inning.

Following the big inning, the Mudcats cut into the deficit in the sixth inning when Eddie Silva hit an RBI single, driving in Mario Feliciano.

Starter Brady Singer (3-2) got the win while Matt Smith (1-2) took the loss in relief in the Carolina League game.

Wilmington improved to 4-1 against Carolina this season.
