Drew Barker has been hired as the new marketing, events and sports coordinator for the Wilson Visitors Center.
“Drew will be helping to promote local events and attractions in the Wilson community,” said Sandra Homes, executive director. “His focus will also be expanding on the social media platform.”
Growing up in Kinston, Barker was always involved with the city and local area. While in Kinston, he was a part of many community groups including the East Carolina Council of the Boy Scouts of America, St. Mary’s Church and the Lenoir County Arts Council. He is a recent graduate of East Carolina University, earning his bachelor’s degree in parks and recreation management, with a focus in commercial recreation and tourism.
While attending ECU, he took part in multiple projects in the surrounding communities. He worked directly with his professor with marketing research for Mother Earth Brewing to show the economic impacts of the brewery. During his final year, he was a part of a team that helped create a marketing plan for the town of Windsor to promote the new tree houses that were built by The Tree House Guys on the DIY Network.
Barker also partnered with the city of Winterville to provide a family-friendly Halloween festival for the community members.
“We are so excited about this opportunity, and we welcome his knowledge and expertise in this market,” said Minnie Horton, chairman of the Wilson Tourism Board of Directors.
