Mancio, Monells lead Barton soccer all-conference honors

A total of five Barton College soccer players were named to their respective NCAA Division II Conference Carolinas All-Conference teams, it was announced by the league office Friday.

Earning first-team laurels were a pair of men’s team performers in sophomores Ruben Mancio and Pol Monells. Tolly Beatson, a senior, was named to the league’s second team.

On the women’s roster, the Lady Bulldogs were represened by junior forward Rebekah Beal and senior midfielder Laisy Scardazzi.

Mancio paced Barton in total goals with 11 and points scored with 23 as both marks were second in the conference. Earlier in the season, Mancio was tabbed the Division II Player of the Week by United Soccer Coaches.

Monells led Barton with six assists and was second on the team with seven goals and 20 points.

Beatson, with his second appearance on the league’s second unit, tallied six goals and a pair of assists in his final campaign as a four-year starter.

Barton finished 8-7-1 overall and 4-5-1 within the league, losing in the Conference Carolinas quarterfinals to Chowan.

For the Lady Bulldogs, Beal paced the team with seven assists and two goals heading into Friday’s Conference Carolinas semifinal versus Belmont Abbey. Beal slammed in a penalty kick against the Crusaders.

Scardazzi leads the team with seven goals and 15 points, including a pair of match winners.

Barton owned a 10-6-1 overall record and a 5-5-1 conference showing in the regular season.

Limestone College swept the individual Player of the Year awards, with Megan O’Connor (Offensive POY), Lea Hippauf (Defensive POY) and Chloe Dunn as the league’s Freshman of the Year.
