Wilson Recreation Department
The Wilson Parks and Recreation Department Little Demons youth tackle football program went into its open date on the schedule last weekend after a trio of Eastern North Carolina Football League games.
The Little Demons varsity lost 36-14 to Southern Nash on Sept. 23 at Fike High’s Buddy Bedgood Stadium. N’carrious Woodard led Wilson with 106 yards on the ground.
The following Saturday, the Little Demons rode Woodard’s legs to a 34-24 victory over Rocky Mount as he piled up 294 yards and all five touchdowns on the ground.
However, it was a different story the following Saturday against Enfield, which continued its streak of allowing no points with a 48-0 conquest of Wilson Parks and Rec. The Little Demons (2-3) trailed just 6-0 at halftime and had two deep drives that failed to materialize into points.
The WPRD junior varsity team scorched Southern Nash 26-0 on Sept. 23 before losing the next two games — 18-12 to Rocky Mount and 27-12 to Enfield to drop to 1-4.
Roger Jones had the hot hand for Wilson against the Firebirds, throwing for 258 yards and four touchdowns, including two to Jashon Graham. Charlie Muhammad snared one and William Monk had the other. The Little Demons allowed just 34 rushing yards by Southern Nash.
Against Rocky Mount, the Little Demons didn’t get going until the second half but Graham caught a 55-yard pass for a touchdown and then ran 50 yards for another TD to tie the score at 12-12. However, a late Wilson fumble allowed Rocky Mount to score the decisive TD in the final minute.
Graham had another big game against Enfield, rushing for 123 yards and two TDs but Enfield scored on a pair of big plays against an otherwise outstanding defensive effort by the Little Demons that proved to be the difference.
In the rookie league games, the Little Demons went 1-2, beating Southern Nash before a 20-14 loss to Rocky Mount and an 18-6 setback, their fourth against one win, the following Saturday versus Enfield.
Wilson ran for 212 yards against Southern Nash with Jeremiah Thomas running for 52 and had a 52-yard kick return TD. Larry Watson led the way with 68 yards on the ground and Josiah Watson added 50 rushing yards. The defense held the Firebirds to 50 yards and one score.
Josiah Watson returning a kickoff 55 yards and running 11 yards for both Wilson TDs against Rocky Mount while Delarin Finch had a 65-yard run for Wilson, nearly half its 135 total rushing yards, in the loss to Enfield.
The Little Demons will visit The SPOT Little Warriors on Saturday, Oct. 21, at Hunt High.
