The Wilson County Public Library will offer a variety of free programs for the community this August at the Main Library and Branches.

MAIN LIBRARY Children’s Programs

Lapsit: Every Wednesday and Thursday, 9:30 a.m. Ages 0-2.

Preschool storytime: Every Wednesday and Thursday, 10 a.m.

Family storytimes: Saturdays, 3 p.m.

TUESDAY, AUG. 7: Weights and Measures — Following an introductory discussion of weights and measurement, use centers to explore basic concepts in the main library children’s room at 7 p.m. Recommended for ages 4 and up. No registration required.

TUESDAY, AUG. 14: Too-Tall Houses — Participants will read the story “Too Tall Houses” by Gianna Marino and then build their own “Too Tall” structure using Popsicle sticks and clothespins. The program begins at 7 p.m. and is recommended for ages 4 and up. No registration required.

TUESDAY, AUG. 21: Explore with Magnets — Learn how magnets work. Program begins at 7 p.m. and is recommended for ages 4 and up. No registration required.

TUESDAY, AUG. 28: Lego Club — Build and create with Legos. Families are welcome at this 7 p.m. recurring monthly program. No registration required.

BRANCH CHILDREN’S PROGRAMS

Black Creek Library: Storytime will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 2 and Thursday, Aug. 16. All ages. Lapsit will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 29.

East Library: Storytime will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 8 and Wednesday, Aug. 22. No registration required.

Elm City Library: Preschool storytimes will be held at 10 a.m. each Tuesday, Aug. 7, 14, 21 and 28. No registration required.

SATURDAY, AUG. 4: Teen Saturday Matinee — Relax and recharge with pizza, video games and a movie from 2:30-4:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 4 in the main library assembly room. Ages 13-18. No registration required.

TUESDAY, AUG. 14: Bloxels — Learn how to use the Bloxels kits and app to create your own video games from 5:30-7 p.m. Ages 13-18. No registration required.

TUESDAY, AUG. 21: Teen Advisory Board — Join the Teen Advisory Board and have a voice in choosing the library’s teen programs, services, and resources.  You can also earn community service hours. To find out if TAB is right for you, attend the interest meeting from 5:30-6:30 p.m. in the main library assembly room. Ages 13-18. No registration required.

ADULT PROGRAMS

TUESDAY, AUG. 7: Let’s Talk Mental Health — Caregivers and individuals who work with the community will learn how to manage challenging behaviors at 3 p.m. in the main library assembly room. TUESDAY, AUG. 30: Digital Resources for Genealogists — Explore digital collections and websites that provide family historians and other researchers with a wealth of genealogical information.  No registration required. BRANCH SPECIAL EVENTS

THURSDAY, AUG. 2: Book Chat — The Stantonsburg Library will host book chat from 3-4 p.m. No registration is required.

TUESDAY, AUG. 7: Dog Days of Summer — Lucama Library staff will facilitate outfield day fun at Lucama Park at 4 p.m. All ages are invited and no registration is required.

TUESDAY, AUG. 21: Back-to-School Bash — Explore books and celebrate the beginning of the new school year at the Lucama Library beginning at 4 p.m. All ages are invited; no registration required.

BOOKMOBILE

The Bookmobile will be making stops all summer.
