Learn about adoption, foster care at DSS block party

The Wilson County Department of Social Services is hosting its 18th annual adoption awareness celebration from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at its 100 Gold St. offices. The public is invited to attend.

The block party will be filled with family activities including a jump and slide attraction, obstacle course, rock climbing wall, the Colgate bus to learn about proper oral hygiene, fire safety by Wilson Fire and Rescue, Safe Kids, Ident-a-Kid with the Wilson County Sheriff’s Office, face painting, community engagement with the Wilson Police Department and information on becoming an adoptive or foster parent.

Free food will be available from Abrams and Pelican’s Snowballs.

Wilson County DSS staff will be on hand to provide answers to questions about financial issues regarding adoptions, selecting the right therapy services and how to become an adoptive or foster parent.
