On a backdoor play, sophomore Cheyenne Gardner scored a last-second field goal on a layup to send the host Community Christian School varsity girls basketball team to a 25-24 victory against Ridgecoft of Ahoskie on Thursday evening in the Eastern N.C. School for the Deaf gym.

In a half-court set, Gardner took a feed from senior Olivia Bullock and finished.

“It was beautiful,” exclaimed first-year CCS head coach Mark Kent. “It was there all night, and we finally ran it.”

The Lady Cyclones survived a 3-for-23 performance at the foul line in improving to 9-6.

Seniors Anna Jackson and Morgan Lane each netted seven points for CCS, while Gardner managed six.

Brooke Rose led Ridgecroft with eight points.

CCS is host to Kerr-Vance Academy on Friday night.
