Three Lake Wilson Tennis Club USTA Junior Team Tennis age groups have prevailed in their respective Downeast league openers.
Wednesday afternoon, Lake Wilson legged out a 4-1 win at home over Benvenue Country Club to kick off the 14U season.
The 18U team posted a 7-2 win over River Birch Tennis Center of Greenville in its season opener Tuesday, while the 12U edition recorded four wins to snatch a road victory at Kinston Parks and Recreation on Monday. Snyder Pearson, Blake Mastman and Lawson O’Hara all captured singles matches, while Pearson-Mastman won in doubles against Benvenue.
Versus River Birch, Lake Wilson’s 18U’s picked up wins from Cabell Metts at No. 2 singles, Snyder Pearson at No. 3, Sophia Meszaros at No. 5 and Blake Mastman at No. 6.
Lake Wilson swept the three doubles matches, with McGuire Metts-Pearson, Cabell Metts-Vincent Phillips and Mastman-Meszaros all winning at the Nos. 1, 2 and 3 flights respectively.
Snyder Pearson led the way in the 12U opener as well, winning a singles match and teaming with Hatten Gore for a victory in doubles. Gore and Collins Pearson collected singles triumphs for Lake Wilson. In a 22-8 win over Greene County Tennis Association on Wednesday that took into account the number of total games won, Gore won 6-0 in his singles match and teamed with Snyder Pearson to prevail in doubles competition. The 12U team moved to 2-0 as Gore played in a third match with Collins Pearson. Gore accounted for 18 total points as he turned in a second 6-2 win.
Lake Wilson’s 12U team remains home Monday to face Kinston.
