DURHAM — After a first-round upset win in its first state playoff appearance since 2009, the Southern Nash girls basketball team discovered the second-round glass slipper didn’t fit Thursday night in a 57-17 loss at Southern Durham.
The Spartans, seeded ninth out of 32 teams in the North Carolina High School Athletic Association 3-A East Regional, raced to a 16-1 lead after one quarter before administering a 22-point knockout in the second period. Southern Durham, the 3-A Big Eight Conference runner-up, will take a 21-6 mark into its third-round at top-seeded D.H. Conley (27-0), which survived a 58-56 scare from No. 17 Western Alamance on Thursday.
The Ladybirds of head coach Jordan Bass, who stunned No. 8 Union Pines 45-43 on Tuesday, ended their best season in more than a decade with a 10-13 mark.
