Susan Guzman tallied five goals Monday afternoon in leading the Springfield girls soccer team to a resounding 6-0 conquest of Speight.

Cappa Bunn had the other goal for the Lady Wildcats, who improved to 6-2.

In goal, Itzel Charres-Vargas played the opening half and did not face a shot. Shianet Pinero entered in the second half and stopped three shots.

Springfield is home to South Edgecombe on Wednesday.

Elm City beats S. Edgecombe 9-0

PINETOPS — Erin Pope, Avery Lentz and Hayley Selfe each had a pair of goals Monday in boosting the Elm City girls soccer team to a 9-0 victory at South Edgecombe.

The Lady Vikings unbeaten in seven matches, also picked up goals from Reagan Nelson, Hannah Mosley and Kinsey Jacobsen. Lentz added three assists, with Caroline Adkins and Mallory Jenkins each getting one.

Elm City hosts Speight on Wednesday.

Stegall’s 2 goals enough in WPA win

Lillian Stegall scored both goals for the Wilson Prep girls soccer team in the Lady Tigers’ 2-1 win over Clayton Southside Christian on Friday.

The game-winner came on a penalty kick by Stegall after she was fouled in the goal area.

Jocelyn Tucker recorded five saves in goal for Wilson Prep.
