The Wilson Prep varsity girls basketball team breezed into the quarterfinal round of the Carolina Athletic Association for Schools of Choice playoffs with a 60-27 victory over Triangle Math & Science Academy of Cary on Monday night.

WPA, in winning its 20th game against one loss, will host Fayetteville Alpha Academy on Wednesday at 5 in the quarterfinal round. Seeded No. 1 in their four-team pod, a victory would send the Lady Tigers into the CAASC state semifinals on Friday at Forsyth Country Day. The championship game is set for Saturday, also at Forsyth Country Day.

The Lady Tigers were not threatened in their playoff opener, with eighth grader Destiny Ainstead leading the way with 24 points. Junior Trinity Mobley had 13 points and 11 rebounds as senior Jadore Lucas-Barnes posted a double-double of 11 points and 15 rebounds.

Wilson Prep statistics credited the Lady Tigers with 48 rebounds in conjunction with a 25-for-63 performance from the field for 39.7 percent accuracy. Defensively, Mobley had eight of the Lady Tigers’ 14 steals as WPA led 28-13 at the half and 41-19 after three quarters.

Statistics were not available for Triangle Math & Science, which fell to 7-16 and moved into the CAASC’s consolation bracket.
