Thomas drives in 6 as CBA rolls
NEW BERN — The official stats will credit Charles B. Aycock High freshman Abbey Thomas with just one time at bat during Friday’s 3-A/4-A Eastern Carolina Conference softball game with New Bern.
However, Thomas did her job on more than one occasion.
Launching a three-run home run in the second inning as well as being responsible for a trio of sacrifice flies, Thomas finished 1 for 1 with six runs batted in en route to a 17-2 victory for the Lady Golden Falcons.
CBA, which entertains Erwin Triton for a nonconference game Monday, improved to 12-3 overall and 6-1 in the 3-A/4-A Eastern Carolina Conference.
Senior Cassandra Lassiter hit her fourth homer, a three-run shot in the fifth inning. But one aspect that caught the attention of CBA head coach LaVon Matthews was the fact that his team struck out 11 times, eight from the bottom of the order.
CBA outhit New Bern (4-12, 2-5 ECC) by a 14-3 margin. Byers, who struck out 11 CBA batters but yielded 14 hits and 17 runs, was 2 for 3.
