WINTERVILLE — The Greenfield School varsity girls basketball team continued its solid defensive play of late, getting double-doubles from Kaelyn Wall and Sumer Hassan en route to a 57-21 victory over 1-A Coastal Plain Independents Conference opponent Winterville Christ Covenant.
Greenfield, now 6-7 overall and 2-3 within CPIC play, picked up 18 points and 11 rebounds from Wall. Hassan battled for 11 points and 12 boards down low.
“We dominated the defensive end of the court,” Greenfield head coach Bruce Wall said. “I would have loved to have had the (defensive) stats, but we moved the ball left and right.
The Lady Knights were indeed unselfish with the ball, as Claire Brittle led the team with eight assists despite having the flu. Caroline Stone had six assists. Jeallen Holland netted 14 points, a varsity career high.
Greenfield’s lead was 24-12 at the half, and the Lady Knights, who didn’t allow double digits in any quarter, pulled away with a dominant 18-2 showing in the third.
The Lady Knights visit Greenville Pope John Paul II on Tuesday, Jan. 23.
