GREENVILLE — The visiting Community Christian School varsity girls basketball team thrived with its full-court pressure in posting a 51-28 nonconference victory against Pope John Paul II on Tuesday night.
Seniors Morgan Lane and Olivia Bullard combined for 32 points to lead the Lady Cyclones to their fifth win in their last six outings. CCS carries a 10-7 record into its scheduled home contest against Faith Christian of Rocky Mount on Thursday night in Eastern N.C. School for the Deaf’s Barney Williamson gym.
Lane and Bullard worked the front end of the press that produced numerous steals and converted them into transition points. Lane fired in 21 points, while Bullard, known for her defensive prowess, tossed in 11. Junior Morgnn Lane added eight points.
CCS was without sophomore Cheyenne Gardner because of a finger injury.
First-year Lady Cyclones head coach Mark Kent said growing familiarity with the schemes and correct positioning are reaping dividends and developing offensive confidence.
“We are getting a lot of steals off our press,” Kent explained. “We are gettsing more opportunities on offense. The more opportunitie we have, the better we’ll be.”
Lasy Ross’ 14 points led John Paul II.
