WILMINGTON — The Wilson Christian Academy girls soccer team made the long trip to Wilmington worthwhile with a 5-0 win against Willmington Christian on Thursday.
Lindsey Price knocked in the first Lady Chargers’ goal, followed by a penalty kick from Chloe Vallaverde.
Up 2-0 at halftime, WCA got a goal from Mackenzie Mainor and two from Reagan Barnes in the second half.
The Lady Chargers welcome Our Lady of Perpetual Help on Friday at 4 p.m.
Springfield dumps Darden 17-1
The Springfield baseball team opened its season with a 17-1, three-inning victory over Darden on Thursday.
David Watson struck out seven for the Wildcats in relief, with Gabe Cooke getting the start and striking out a trio of hitters.
Payne Stinagle, Andrew Clark, Drew Wells and Luke Dilda all had two hits for Springfield. Dilda added a double and a triple, driving in four runs. Clark doubled in two official plate appearances and had a pair of RBIs.
Darden was also playing in its opener.
Springfield visits Speight on Monday.
Wilson Christian suffers 2-1 defeat
The Wilson Christian Academy girls soccer team was dealt a 2-1 loss by Our Lady of Perpetual Help on Friday.
Reagan Barnes netted the Lady Chargers’ goal.
WCA plays at home at 4 p.m. Monday against New Life.
Stegall’s 6 goals helps Lady Tigers slug Wayne Prep
GOLDSBORO — Lilian Stegall had six goals and a pair of assists Thursday for the Wilson Prepatory Academy girls soccer team in a 9-0 victory over Wayne Preparatory Academy.
Urvi Patel added two goals for the Lady Tigers and an assist, while Destiny Cox recorded one goal. Fatima Raya had an assist.
Emma Etheridge and Kathryn James combined on the shutout in goal for Wilson Prep.
