Playing a short-handed North Greenville squad, the Barton women’s tennis team cruised to an 8-1 victory Friday at Barton Tennis Complex.

The Lady Bulldogs’ fourth straight win and seventh in their last eight matches assured them of a winning regular season. Barton, now 12-9 overall and 8-2 in NCAA Division II Conference Carolinas matches, will host Southern Wesleyan in the regular-season finale Saturday. The Lady Bulldogs, third in the conference standings behind first-place Chowan and Emmanuel, can sew up the No. 2 seed for the conference tournament next week with a victory against SWU. Emmanuel is ineligible for postseason play.

Barton’s Daria Avram-Marissa Stevenson and Vanessa Sanoja-Ada Vargas won their Nos. 1 and 2 doubles matches, respectively, while Claudia Capellades-Whitney Hamilton claimed a forfeit win at No. 3.

Avram, Stevenson and Vargas won their pro-set singles matches while Capellades and Hamilton each won by forfeit.

The Conference Carolinas tournament is set to begin Friday, April 20, at Palmetto Tennis Center in Florence, South Carolina.
