FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. — The Barton College women’s basketball team will now have to wait to see if its body of work is sufficient enough to warrant an at-large bid to the 2019 NCAA Division II tournament.
The Lady Bulldogs (24-5) had their 10-game winning streak snapped with a 77-69 loss to Belmont Abbey in the semifinals of the Conference Carolinas tournament at Emmanuel College on Thursday night.
Barton, the No. 2 seed, was particularly hurt by its rebounding, as it was handed a 41-18 disparity in that department after entering play averaging a plus-10 over its opponents.
Senior Dinah Neal led three Barton players in double figures with 16 points.
Junior Summer Baer had 15 and freshman Zanah Boyd added 11 off the bench as Barton shot 49.1 percent from the floor, making 26 of its 53 attempts.
Abbey (21-9), seeded No. 3, advanced to play host Emmanuel for the conference title on Friday night.
