SALISBURY — The Barton College women’s golf team occupied the 15th position among 17 teams after Monday’s opening round of the Patsy Rendleman Invitational at the Country Club of Salisbury.
The Lady Bulldogs, who posted a 329 for their low four individuals, trails 14th-place North Greenville (South Carolina) University by seven shots and is 21 strokes ahead of 16th-place Chowan University. Both North Greenville and Chowan are NCAA Division II Conference Carolinas rivals of Barton.
Barton was paced by junior Kelsey Woodall with a season-low round of 80. Woodall is tied for the 45th position in a field of 90 golfers.
The Lady Bulldogs also counted an 81 from junior Maria Garcia, an 83 from junior Sydney Turner and an 85 from sophomore Clare McMahon. Freshman Jailynn Thomas shot an 88.
Lenoir-Rhyne University leads the tournament at its midpoint with a round of 295. Second is Limestone (South Carolina) College, another Conference Carolinas member, at 300, followed by Queens University at 301.
