The Beddingfield High varsity softball team got its second win of the week against 2-A Eastern Plains Conference foe North Pitt with a 15-0 romp in three innings, including a 12-run first inning, Friday night.
The Lady Bruins, 7-2 overall and 2-0 in the conference, have two games next week against last year’s EPC champion North Johnston. Beddingfield head coach Jeremy Howard stressed the need to win both of the games this week to set them up with a chance to win the conference this year.
“North Pitt is rebuilding but I told the girls they’re our first two conference games and we need to start 2-0,” Howard said. “We’re one of three teams that are in line for the conference championship, but we understand our work is extremely cut out for us because North Johnston is one of the premiere programs around here and Farmville (Central) brought back a lot of talent. We’re young with only one senior, but we got to start off on the right foot to have a shot.”
Beddingfield got three innings from freshman pitcher Abby Edmundson, who gave up one hit and a walk while striking out three for the win. Edmundson was also 1 for 2 with a two-run double. Sophomore Nelah Bottoms was also 2 for 3 with two runs batted in. Senior Karissa Hayes was 2 for 2 with a double and two walks.
