ROCK HILL, S.C. — Despite some late ball-handling issues, the Greenfield School varsity boys basketball team held on for its sixth straight win, a 62-59 win over South Point High of Rock Hill, South Carolina, in the second day of the Battle at the Rock Showcase.
The Knights, now 12-2, led 53-42 going into the fourth quarter, played at Nation Ford High, but South Pointe scrapped back. Senior Creighton Lebo, who led all scorers with 21 points, hit a pair of free throws to put the Knights up by three and the Stallions missed a potential game-tying 3-point shot at the buzzer.
“We just turned it over too much. We had 17 turnovers, which let them stay in the game,” assessed Greenfield head coach Rob Salter. “But I was proud of the guys. We found a way to win.”
Lebo hit four 3-pointers, part of an 8-of-16 showing for the Knights.
“He just made big plays for us all day,” Salter said.
Senior Trey Pittman, who was named the game MVP, had 14 points and seven rebounds and classmate Collin Guilford added 13 points.
South Pointe (2-3) was led by Jerijah Burris with 16 points.
The Knights are off until Thursday, when they host DASH in the first round of the Greenfield Christmas Tournament.
