Community Christian’s boys basketball team fell 38-31 to visiting Kerr-Vance on Friday, sending the Cyclones to their seventh defeat without a loss.
Rylan Gay and Seth Huston had eight points each for CCS, which will play Eastern North Carolina School for the Deaf on Tuesday.
WCA Blue girls beat Friendship 24-18
RALEIGH — The Wilson Christian Blue girls basketball team held host Friendship Christian to two points in the third quarter, opening the door for the Lady Chargers to take a 24-18 victory.
Kate Hoskins led WCA Blue, now 3-5, with nine points.
The Lady Chargers are off until Friday, Jan. 19, when they face Faith Christian of Goldsboro.
Springfield rolls past Speight, 39-28
The host Springfield boys basketball team rolled up a 29-12 halftime lead and proceeded to a 39-28 conquest of rival Speight on Thursday evening.
The Wildcats upped their record to 2-9 behind 10 points from Channon Atkinson, nine from Esten Melvin and six from Ziyear Barnes.
Speight’s leading scorer was Micah Sherrod with a game-high 12 points.
Springfield is home again next Thursday against Elm City.
Elm City splits with South Edgecombe, Toisnot
The Elm City boys basketball team split a pair of contests with South Edgecombe and Toisnot on consecutive days.
Elm City defended its home court with a 43-36 win over South Edgecombe on Thursday, one day after succumbing in a 41-38 road decision at Toisnot.
Against South Edgecombe, Elm City (3-4) rallied from an eight-point halftime deficit, led by Christen Battle’s 13 points. Donald Richardson had nine points and Joseph Graziana had seven. Drew Pittman finished with six points.
Versus Toisnot, Battle bucketed 26 points for the Vikings. Richardson had 10.
Elm City is at Forest Hills next Tuesday.
Bucks trample Hawks 63-53
Three players finished in double figures for the Forest Hills boys basketball team Thursday afternoon in a 63-53 victory at Toisnot.
TyChuan Clay had 21 points for the Bucks, unbeaten through four games. Davon Jones had 16 points and C.J. Joyner had 10.
Lady Bucks ease by Toisnot
The Forest Hills girls basketball team had a successful stint on the road Thursday, pulling away from Toisnot for a 43-20 win.
Kaitlyn Adams led Forest Hills with 19 points, with D’miyah McGuire adding 13. Katlynn McNair tallied six points.
Wilson Prep bows to Thales Academy 46-33
Despite the 24 points and eight rebounds of Hunter Waddell, the Wilson Prep boys basketball team was left with a 46-33 loss to Thales Academy of Rolesville on Thursday.
Micah Buck had three points and a rebound for Wilson Prep, which hosts Clayton Southside Christian on Tuesday, Jan. 23.
