Officials are gearing up for Saturday’s Kids on the Lawn Celebration, which will be held at the Wilson County Library from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

“We look forward to this event every year,” said NaDene Tucker, Wilson County Partnership for Children executive director. “This celebration is a wonderful time for local families to have fun together while learning about ways to help ensure their children learn, grow and thrive every day.”

The Wilson County Partnership for Children, along with several community partners including the Wilson County Public Library, Mother of Preschoolers, Wilson County Health Department, city of Wilson, Wilson County Department of Social Services, Land of Learning, Community Christian School, Salvation Army of Wilson and First Media Radio will join together to celebrate the Week of the Young Child and Child Abuse Prevention Month with the annual Kids on the Lawn Celebration.

The planning committee decided to name the 2017 celebration and moving forward in honor of Mary Artis, a longtime employee of the Wilson County Partnership for Children, who planned the event for many years. Artis passed away unexpectedly in 2016.

“Mary dedicated her life to helping improve the lives of young children in Wilson County,” said Tucker. “She will be missed throughout the community. We felt it just made sense to name this event in her honor.”

Kids on the Lawn offers families a chance to come out together for fun, food and entertainment. Many local businesses, nonprofits and community groups will gather on the library lawn for games, face painting, a magic show and many other fun activities. Groups from local child care centers are scheduled to perform in the talent show.

Concessions will be available and the rain location is The Spot located at 910 Tarboro St W.
