The annual Mary Artis Kids on the Lawn Celebration is planned from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Wilson County Public Library.
The event will offer families a chance to come out for fun, food and entertainment. Many local businesses, nonprofits and community groups will gather on the library lawn for games, face-painting, a magic show and other family activities. Kids from several local child care agencies are scheduled to perform in a talent show as well.
“We look forward to this event every year,” said NaDene Tucker, Wilson County Partnership for Children executive director. “This celebration is a wonderful time for local families to have fun together while learning about ways to help ensure their children learn, grow and thrive every day.”
In 2017, the planning committee named the celebration in honor of Mary Artis, a longtime employee of the Wilson County Partnership for Children, who planned the event for many years and passed away unexpectedly in 2016.
“Mary dedicated her life to helping improve the lives of young children in Wilson County,” said Tucker.
The Wilson County Partnership for Children, along with community partners including the Wilson County Public Library, Mother of Preschoolers, the Wilson County Health Department, the city of Wilson, the Wilson County Department of Social Services, Land of Learning, The Growing Tree, Hattie Daniels, Community Christian School and the Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club of Wilson will celebrate the Week of the Young Child and Child Abuse Prevention Month during Saturday’s event.
Concessions will be available. If it rains, the event will be moved to The Spot at 910 Tarboro St. W.
