RALEIGH — The Downeast Association of Sports for Homeschoolers (DASH) home school boys basketball team advanced to the North Carolinians for Home Education Athletic Commission semifinals for the first time in program history with a 44-40 victory Saturday over North Wake in the East region championship, hosted by NewLife Camp.
DASH, the top seed, improved to 29-4 and will advance to the NCHEAC semifinals in Greensboro on Friday against defendning NCHEAC junior varsity boys basketball champion South Charlotte Thunder (23-5).
The United was led by tournament MVP Elijah Skinner with 21 points. Joining him on the all-regional team were DASH teammates Jacob Dienes and Jonathan Weeks.
On Friday, the United turned in a pair of victories over Harnett County and Durham Homeschool.
DASH, the No. 1 seed, took down Harnett County 67-27 in the quarterfinals before doubling up Durham, 62-31, in the semfinal round.
Against Harnett County, DASH (28-4) picked up 10 points each from Dienes and Ryan Lambert, leading 41-12 at the half.
Skinner paced three DASH players in double figures during the semifinal with 23 points. Dienes added 12 and Weeks had 11.
WCA season ended by Hilltop
The Wilson Christian boys basketball team endured a 14-for-24 showing from the free-throw line Thursday in seeing its season come to a close with a 54-52 loss to Fuquay-Varina Hilltop Christian in the opening round of the North Carolina Christian School Association 2-A playoffs.
WCA (11-13) was led by the 21 points of freshman Will Hoskins. Classmate Matthew Wood poured in 15.
WCA girls advance in state tourney
Host Wilson Christian got past Hilltop Christian of Fuquay-Varina by a 39-26 score Friday in the North Carolina Christian School Association 2-A junior varsity girls basketball tournament.
The Lady Chargers, who got 14 points from Hailey Carnes and six points from Chloe Willard, will face Alamance Christian in the JV tournament semifinals Friday at Wilson Christian.
