Greenfield, WCA battle to 3-3 tie

Host Greenfield and Wilson Christian battled to a 3-3 draw in Monday’s girls soccer match.

The Lady Knights scored twice in the first five minutes with Hannah Achilles and and Margaret Covington each finding the net. Chloe Howard assisted on Achilles’ goal in the first minute.

The Lady Chargers responded with goals by Lindsey Hunter in the 15th minute and Kate Hoskins in the 25th minute to forge a 2-2 tie at halftime.

Wilson Christian took the lead on MacKenzie Mainor’s goal in the 45th minute but Libby Eagles got the equalizer for Greenfield, off an assist by Achilles, in the 58th minute.

Greenfield will host Community Christian on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. while Wilson Christian, now 1-0-1, will visit Faith Christian in Rocky Mount at 3:30 p.m. Friday.

CCS baseball thumps WCD 7-1

GOLDSBORO — Community Christian pounded out 11 hits en route to a 7-1 victory at Wayne Country Day in 1-A Coastal Plain Independents Conference baseball action Friday.

Drew Oliver, Thomas Lane, Dylan Manning and Noah Moran each collected two hits for the Cyclones. Lawson Summerlin, Oliver and Manning each drove in a run.

Lane picked up the victory on the mound as he struck out 11 WCD batters in five innings. He gave up one unearned run on three hits and a walk.
