CBA edges Southern Wayne 4-3

PIKEVILLE —Sophomore Jakob Prebe had a bases-clearing, three-run double in the third inning Friday to boost the Charles B. Aycock High baseball team to a 4-3 win at Southern Wayne.

Freshman Guy Crane went 2 for 3 for the Golden Falcons (3-3), who won their 3-A/4-A Eastern Carolina Conference opener.

Sophomore Trey Smith scattered five hits over 5 1/3 innings to earn the mound victory for the Falcons. He struck out three and walked one.

Sophomore Davis Carroll drove in a run in the first for CBA, which visits Rosewood on Monday.

Southern Nash falls 15-0

STANHOPE — The Southern Nash High baseball team was dealt a 15-0 loss by visiting Cleveland on Thursday afternoon.

The Firebirds got a hit each from Robert Hough, Matthew Horrigan, Ryan Friedrich and Dillon Alford.

The Lady Knights, now 1-0-1 overall, visit Wilson Christian on Monday.
