ROCKY MOUNT — For the first time in the Tiffany Parks era, the Hunt High girls basketball team is headed to the 3-A Big East Conference tournament championship after a 58-46 win over Northern Nash in Wednesday’s semifinals at the Rocky Mount Event Center.

Top-seeded Hunt will face No. 2 Rocky Mount, a 53-45 victor over No. 3 Franklinton in Wednesday’s other semifinal, in the championship game Friday at the Rocky Mount Event Center.

The Lady Warriors (19-3) won their 10th straight and second in row over the No. 4 Lady Knights (10-13), who handed them their last loss Jan. 8. Parks’ team won the conference title last season, but due to snow, the conference tournament was canceled. The Lady Warriors are excited to get a chance to compete in the conference tourney championship and go into the North Carolina High School Athletic Association playoffs next week with plenty of momentum.

“It’s really important for states because I’m really looking at getting a higher seed,” Parks said. “The more wins and less losses you get, the better and I’m really looking at a higher seed.”

The Lady Knights put up a good fight in the first half as they lead for majority of the first half until the Lady Warriors’ Imani Sutton dropped in a 3-pointer that put her team up 24-21 heading into the half. Sutton had a team-high 18 points and was the spark the Lady Warriors needed.

It was the first game back for junior guardBria Griffith, who finished with eight points, eight rebounds, four assists and two steals in her return from a concussion. Tatiana Smith also put in 10 points. Parks also applauded Dylia Lucas, who also had eight points and six rebounds.

Jadaysia Hedgepeth finished with a game-high 25 points for the Lady Knights.
