The Hunt High varsity volleyball team lost its first two matches of 2017 to a pair of 3-A/4-A Eastern Carolina Conference foes, as the Lady Warriors were edged in a five-set outcome by Winterville South Central on Tuesday and a three-set sweep at the hands of D.H. Conley on Monday evening.

Both matches were played at Springfield Middle as the Hunt High gym undergoes renovations. Against 4-A South Central, Hunt of the 3-A Big East Conference won the first two sets before fading to a 20-25, 14-25, 25-16, 25-10, 15-12 defeat.

Libero Allyson Matthews enjoyed a solid defensive floor game, posting 14 digs and serving three aces. Meghan Martinez led the offense with 10 kills, while Amoret Stinagle tallied seven kills and a trio of aces.

On Monday, Hunt opened the season with a 25-13, 25-7, 25-14 setback to Conley, a 3-A member of the split league.

Hunt visits Princeton on Thursday.
