This time, the Hunt High varsity boys soccer team found itself on the wrong end of a one-goal outcome with Franklinton.
Hunt notched its only tally off a Red Rams own goal in the 20th minute to equalize, but the Warriors’ defense permitted an unmarked player to head the ball in 20 minutes into the second half, sending Hunt to a 2-1 loss on its home field.
Hunt fell to 11-9 overall and 7-2 within the 3-A Big East Conference and can assure itself of at least a share of the conference title with a win over archrival Fike on Wednesday. That share can turn into outright possession with a win and Southern Nash losses to either Rocky Mount on Tuesday or the Red Rams on Wednesday. Hunt does own the regular-season series over the Firebirds.
Franklinton departed 15-6 in all matches, 4-5 within the Big East.
