Seventh-grader Chloe Howard punched in four goals as the Greenfield varsity girls soccer team kicked off its season Friday with a 7-0 shutout of Ridgecroft in the Community Christian School Showcase.
Howard scored off a passes from sophomore Kaelyn Wall in the eighth and 15th minutes, sandwiched around an unassisted goal by Wall in the 12th minute. Howard added an unassisted goal in the 20th minute to give the Lady Knights a 4-0 lead at halftime.
Wall netted her second goal four minutes into the second half with freshman Margaret Covington on the assist, followed by another solo strike from Howard 10 minutes later.
Freshman Ryann Jennings finished a pass from sophomore Caroline Stone to complete the scoring in the 58th minute.
Junior goalkeeper Sumer Hassan recorded five saves for Greenfield, which will play defending North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association 1-A champion Kerr-Vance at 10 a.m. Saturday in the second day of the Community Christian Showcase.
