GREENSBORO — Eastern North Carolina School for the Deaf junior Jeremiah Deans placed third in the boys shot put at the North Carolina High School Athletic Association 1-A track and field championship meet Saturday, May 18.

Deans, who was the 1-A Mideast Regional runner-up, produced a season-best toss of 48 feet, 8.5 inches, which was 15.5 inches farther than his regional throw. Riley Blalock of Murphy was the winner with a heave of 50-1 while Cherokee’s Sterling Santa Maria was second at 49-5.75.

Deans finished fourth at the state 1-A meet in 2018.
