TARBORO — A 17-2 run to open the second half broke open a close contest and doomed the Eastern North Carolina School for the Deaf boys basketball team to a 71-53 defeat at North East Carolina Prep.
ENCSD, which led 33-32 at halftime, pulled to within nine following the surge from the hosts, but came no closer.
Jeremiah Deans led the Hornets, who finished with a record of 13-5, with 27 points on his way to a double-double. Deans added 13 points, five rebounds and five assists. Alfonza Robinson had 17 points for ENCSD to go along with five assists and five boards.
“All in all, a decent year for this team,” Hornets head coach Leonard Baker said. “Lose three seniors, one starter.”
Josh Eason tallied seven points and nine rebounds.
