The Hunt High varsity softball team won their first game of the season by away of a extra innings walkoff error at home against Farmville Central High on Monday night.
The Lady Jaguars (1-2) of the 2-A Eastern Plains Conference entered the seventh inning up a run, and added one more run for insurance. The Lady Warriors (1-3) of the 3-A Big East responded with a two-run rally that was started by leadoff hitter Bri Tucker and and No. 2 hitter Madison Mercer’s singles. Both would score on errors by Farmville Central’s infield.
In the top of the eighth, the Lady Jaguars would chase starting pitcher Skylar Yardlin by scoring a run after she pitched seven innings, allowing seven hits, eight runs, four earned and walking four with five strikeouts. Brittany Glover, the winning pitcher, came in and allowed one hit and a walk while giving up a unearned run while getting three outs.
In the bottom of the eighth, Hunt would get its first three batters on via a walk and two errors. Ally Matthews stepped up a slapped a double in the gap of left center to score two. Farmville Central elected to walk Mckenzie House to load the bases again with one out. Desi Norris got to the plate and hit a flyball to right that the right fielder dropped.
“It’s surreal right now because we’ve been struggling for so long,” Hall said.
