Geneva Barfield Rose celebrated her 100th birthday July 19 and was honored with a July 21 party in the fellowship hall of Forest Hills Baptist Church in Wilson.

Sons Charles of Springfield, Virginia, and Randy, who lives in England, proudly wheeled their mother into the waiting crowd. Among more than 200 guests in attendance were Mayor Bruce Rose; Geneva’s physicians, Dr. Christine Barton and Dr. Sunil Chand; pastors, the Revs. Ray Barnhill and Mark Harrell; and numerous family members, church members and other special friends.

Mrs. Rose was born in Greene County and later moved to Wilson County. She is a graduate of Rock Ridge High School and was married to Charles Millard Rose Sr. for 63 years.

She is active in her church, Forest Hills Baptist, as a member of the Faith-Fidelis Sunday school class and Prime Timers senior adult ministry. For decades, she has served as a Sunday school teacher for girls and women and a leader in Girls in Action, a missions organization for elementary school-age girls.

She is the mother of two sons, grandmother of five, great-grandmother of four and great-great-grandmother of two.

Her many interests include reading, crocheting, writing poetry and Bible study. Following her birthday, Mrs. Rose renewed her driver’s license, which will expire in another eight years.
